A Statewide Collaboration for the Betterment of Nebraska

About

Everything Soil in Nebraska

Passed into law during the 2022 Legislative session, The Resilient Soil and Water Quality Act (RSWQA) aims to improve the longevity of soil and water quality in Nebraska. The Department of Natural Resources (NeDNR) is charged with implementing the Act and has worked diligently with local partners and other agencies across the state to ensure positive outcomes result from this legislation.

Through the Department’s outreach and communications efforts with other agencies it is clear that people all across Nebraska care about the health of the state’s soil and water. Local, state, and federal agencies have a vast amount of information and resources to help producers implement healthy soil practices, have a significant interest in expanding the reach of educating producers on the availability of those resources, and often can provide financial resources and/or peer-to-peer opportunities for producers to consider the adoption of healthy soil practices into their own operations.

With multiple agencies working to assist in providing these resources to producers across the state, the Department has developed this website to assist in amplifying those agencies resources and strives to ensure that this website serves as a great entry point for producers interested in learning more about soil health practices in their area.

The Purposes of the Resilient Soils & Water Quality Act are to:

Initiate first steps to accelerate the use and scope of best practices for healthy soil management

Protect and improve soil and water quality throughout the state

Protect the public's health and enhance agricultural production and profitability

Address soil health economics, resource stewardship, and managerial and environmental issues

Increase awareness, education, and promotion of healthy soil best practices through producer-to-producer, peer-to-peer, and mentoring relationships, networking, and sharing of technical information

Provide observational proof of healthy soil benefits through access to demonstration and research farms and data
